Coaching With Shuja
A tuition business that lived in one teacher’s head and a folder of past papers, rebuilt as a product students log into.
Posteroids built Coaching With Shuja, a web application that turns a Lahore tuition practice into a study product. Students log in and work through topic-wise O-Level and Digital SAT multiple-choice practice drawn from real past papers, sit timed exam simulations, and track their own progress. The teacher administers the question bank directly — no developer sits between him and his own material.
The problem
A good tuition practice does not scale, because the thing being sold is a person’s attention in a room. The material — years of curated past-paper questions, sorted by topic, refined by knowing which ones students actually get wrong — was the genuinely valuable asset, and it existed as PDFs and photocopies.
Students lost the PDFs. Nobody could tell which topics a student was weak on without asking. And there was no version of the business that worked while the teacher slept.
What was built
A question bank
Real past-paper MCQs organised by subject and by topic, so a student can drill the exact thing they are weak at rather than resitting whole papers.
Subject tracks
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Digital SAT, each opening into its own topic list.
Timed exam simulation
Practice under the clock, because the difference between knowing the material and passing is usually the clock.
Progress tracking
Per-topic performance that a student can see and cannot argue with — and that tells the teacher where to spend the next session.
Teacher administration
The question bank is editable by the teacher. Adding a year of new past papers does not require a developer.
Accounts
Students log in and their work persists. Obvious, and the thing that makes the rest possible.
Why it was built this way
- Topic-wise, not paper-wise. Whole past papers are how exams are sat, not how weaknesses are fixed. Splitting the bank by topic is the entire pedagogical argument for the product existing.
- The teacher owns the content. A question bank a developer has to update is a question bank that goes stale. Administration was non-negotiable.
- Phone first. Students practise on phones, in bed, at eleven at night. That was the primary target, not an afterthought.
