Portfolio website design

For people whose work is better than their website — photographers, designers, architects, studios and consultants whose site is their reputation.

Posteroids designs custom portfolio websites for $600 to $1,500, delivered in one to two weeks. That covers a design made for your work rather than a template, case study or project pages, a contact route, and a CMS if you want to add work yourself. Every project starts with a free demo — one real page of your actual portfolio, on a live link, before any invoice exists.

Why a template is usually the wrong call

A template is a reasonable choice for a plumber and a bad one for a designer, because your website is a work sample whether you intend it to be or not. Someone deciding whether to hire you is, consciously or not, treating the site as evidence of your taste. A recognisable theme tells them where you shop.

The other problem is fit. Templates are built to hold any work at all, which means they are optimised for none of it. A photographer with large landscape frames and an illustrator with tall detailed panels need genuinely different grids, and a template will compromise both.

The lower end is a focused single-page portfolio with a strong grid. The upper end adds individual project pages, a CMS, and a more involved custom design.

A portfolio we actually shipped

KARAR.EXE is a portfolio you play — a pixel-art campus you walk around, with the CV hidden inside mini-games. It exists to make a point: "portfolio site" does not have to mean three cards and a PDF. Not every portfolio should be a game. But every portfolio should be the most interesting thing in the tab.

The KARAR.EXE boot screen: KARAR_OS v1.0 initialising, mounting /dev/campus, ending in PRESS ANY KEY.

How the build runs

  1. 01

    Brief

You describe what you are building. Fifteen minutes, no deck required.

  2. 02

    Free demo

We build one real page of your actual site and send you the link. Not a mockup, not a Figma file — a working page you can open on your phone. You keep it whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

    Build

Design and build happen in the open on a live URL. You see progress daily and change your mind while changing it is still cheap.

  4. 04

    Launch

Fast, indexed, responsive, on your own domain. Analytics wired, forms tested, nothing left dangling.

  5. 05

    Aftercare

Edits, fixes and new sections on request. We do not disappear after the invoice clears.

Before any invoice exists we build one real page of your actual site and send you the link. Not a mockup, not a Figma file, not a slide — a working page you can open on your phone and forward to a co-founder. If you do not like it, you walk away and keep the link. That is the whole risk.

Questions people ask

How much does a portfolio website cost?
With Posteroids, $600 to $1,500, delivered in one to two weeks. A focused single-page portfolio sits at the lower end; individual project pages, a CMS and a more involved custom design take it toward $1,500.
Can I update it myself afterwards?
Yes, if you want a CMS — it is included in the range and worth having if you add work more than a few times a year. If you would rather not touch it, care and feeding is $150 a month and you send changes by email.
Is this better than Squarespace or Webflow?
For most people it is different rather than better, and you should be told which you need. Squarespace is right if budget is the binding constraint and your work fits a standard grid. A custom build wins when your work does not fit a template, when speed matters, or when looking like everyone else in your field is itself the problem.
What if I do not have many projects yet?
That is an argument for a custom design, not against one. A site with three projects needs to be built to look deliberate at three projects — templates built for thirty look empty holding three.
Will it work on phones?
Yes, and it is tested on real mid-range devices rather than a desktop browser squeezed narrow. Most people who look you up will do it on a phone, often while doing something else.
Do you write the copy?
Yes, if you want. Most people undersell their own work in writing. You supply the facts about each project and we write it up; you correct anything wrong.
