How to not get ripped off
- Insist the domain is registered in your name, with your email on the account. This is the single most common way businesses lose control of their own website.
- Ask to see something real before paying. Not a mockup — a working page on a live URL. Anyone confident in their work can produce one.
- Ask who is actually building it. If the person in the meeting is not the person writing the code, ask to meet that person.
- Get the price in writing, with scope. "A website — PKR 200,000" is not a scope; it is a future argument.
- Ask what happens after launch. Who fixes it, at what cost, and how fast. Get the answer before you need it.
